The Global Gateway Investment Hub
The Global Gateway Investment Hub is a platform provided by the European Commission to support private-sector investment as part of the Global Gateway strategy.
The objective is to better dovetail the existing support and financing instruments of the EU and its member states to promote European investment in partner countries of European development cooperation. The Investment Hub is not a separate financing instrument; it serves as a coordinating structure to facilitate access to existing instruments of the EU and its member states.
German companies can submit their project proposals for investments of at least EUR 10 million in the Global Gateway priority areas exclusively via the contact point in Germany. The German Global Gateway team reviews submitted proposals and, if a preliminary review is successful, coordinates with the companies on suitable support and financing options at national level. The application for support is then forwarded to the Global Gateway Investment Hub. The support instruments that the Investment Hub forwards applications to can be financial as well as non-financial:
Possible non-financial support through the European Commission or other EU-funded programmes
- Political support, economic diplomacy, dialogue with local authorities (e.g. on regulatory issues, investment conditions and market access)
- Technical support (e.g. as part of support relating to the regulatory environment in the partner country, capacity development, etc.)
- Coordination to promote the EU’s offering in international tender procedures
- Support in finding European partners to develop a competitive offer
Possible financial support
- Project development costs, investment grants, guarantees
- Equity, debt and guarantee instruments of public or private financial institutions, if applicable with EU guarantee
- Financing in local currency, hedging exchange rate risks
- Financial support for supplementary and supporting investments (e.g. infrastructure, training for workers, development of local supply chains, etc.)
