Programmes for networking and developing young leaders are an effective driver of future-oriented economic cooperation. They offer access to international contacts, provide a platform for meaningful exchange and support participants in effectively shaping responsibility in business, politics and the media.

Especially at the intersection between new markets, transformation and innovation, young leaders benefit from formats that connect different perspectives, build trust and enable long-term cooperation.

AGYLE is an African-German programme that connects young leaders from Ethiopia, Ghana, Rwanda, Senegal, Tunisia, Kenya, Marocco, Austria and Germany in a growing network of businesses and alumni that promotes economic cooperation between Africa and Germany.

About AGYLE

AGYLE – African German Young Leaders in Business – is a programme initiated by the Agency for Business and Economic Development (AWE) and the non-profit organisation Germany – Land of Ideas. It is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

AGYLE isn’t just a one-time experience - it’s a launchpad. To new members: AGYLE is what you make of it - lean in, collaborate, and be bold.

With annually changing focus topics, AGYLE is aimed at young leaders under the age of 40 from Ethiopia, Ghana, Rwanda, Senegal, Tunisia, Kenya, Marocco, Austria or Germany who already have leadership experience in the field of business, politics or the media. What can you expect from AGYLE?

The programme provides exclusive access to an international business network and connects dialogue, cooperation and personal development – using a combination of face-to-face and digital formats that will help you develop in your field and as a leader.

You can look forward to:

  • Live Week: An inspiring week-long event consisting of a variety of discussion formats, workshops and interactive bar camps (open session formats where participants help set the agenda themselves), sector-specific matchmaking and company visits. You will work with young managers from Africa and Germany on key business challenges – such as those related to the circular economy – test your skills and gain leadership insights.
  • Network access: You will become part of a business network, gain access to exclusive business contacts in Germany and Africa, and forge connections that last long after the programme has ended. You will receive support in strengthening your international profile as a young leader and advancing your career development.
  • Digital events: Regular digital events will offer professional insights and new networking opportunities, and enable you to remain in contact with the network. You will benefit from tailored formats designed to strengthen your skills and competences as a young leader.
  • Leadership development: You will develop your leadership skills in a targeted way – through practical application, reflection and a clear focus on the international context.
  • Cooperation on an equal footing: You will work with experts, mentors and participants in a professional and interdisciplinary environment.
  • Peer dialogue: You will benefit from sharing experiences with other young leaders from participating countries, and gain new perspectives and actionable insights that can be applied in your day-to-day work.
  • Representation and visibility: You will establish yourself as a representative of your home country and as part of a visible African-German network. You will increase your public profile – which will give your career an extra boost.
  • Cultural exchange: You will experience cultural exchange across borders, strengthen your intercultural competence and build an important foundation for trust and sustainable cooperation.
How can you apply?

New cohorts are accepted every year. You can submit your application via the website of the AGYLE programme. Keep track of the application deadlines because the number of places is limited and the selection process is competitive. The programme is fully funded for successful participants.

AGYLE showed me how powerful trust and genuine exchange in an intercontinental network can be. The program was a door opener – not just for ideas but also for concrete collaborations and personal connections.
